Not all bricks from the market meet acceptable quality standards. Knowing how to spot defects before purchase can save you significant cost and trouble during construction.
1. Over-Burnt Bricks
Over-fired bricks appear dark, distorted, and glassy. While they are hard, their irregular shape makes them difficult to use in uniform wall construction.
2. Under-Burnt Bricks
These bricks are pale in colour, soft, and absorb too much water. They lack adequate strength and should not be used in structural walls.
3. Cracks and Fissures
Visible cracks — either surface cracks or internal fissures — weaken the brick significantly. Cracks can result from improper drying or sudden temperature changes during firing.
4. Efflorescence
White salt deposits on the surface of bricks indicate high soluble salt content. Over time, efflorescence weakens the brick and causes unsightly staining on finished walls.
5. Irregular Size and Shape
Inconsistent brick dimensions increase mortar joints, slow down construction, and result in uneven walls. Always check a sample batch before ordering in bulk.
At Kharel Itta Udhyog, our quality control process ensures you receive bricks free from these defects. We invite builders and contractors to inspect our production before placing orders.
