Top Tips for Proper Brick Storage on Construction Sites

July 4, 2026 1 min read

Receiving a delivery of bricks is only the beginning. How you store them on site has a direct impact on quality, wastage, and ultimately your project costs. Here are the essential tips for proper brick storage.

Store on Flat, Stable Ground

Always stack bricks on firm, level ground. Uneven surfaces cause stacks to lean and topple, resulting in breakage and a safety hazard for workers.

Keep Bricks Off the Ground

Place timber planks or pallets beneath brick stacks to keep them clear of ground moisture. Direct contact with wet soil can cause bricks to absorb water and develop efflorescence.

Limit Stack Height

Do not stack bricks higher than 1.5 metres. Excessive height increases the risk of toppling and makes it harder for workers to safely access bricks at the top.

Cover from Rain

While fired clay bricks can tolerate some moisture, prolonged exposure to rain — especially before laying — can saturate the bricks and affect their bond with mortar. Cover stored bricks with tarpaulins during heavy rain.

Keep Access Clear

Organise storage so bricks delivered first are used first (FIFO). This prevents older stock from sitting indefinitely and keeps site logistics efficient.
