One of the most practical questions every builder faces is: how many bricks do I need? Ordering too few causes construction delays, while ordering too many wastes money. Here is a simple guide to help you estimate your brick requirements accurately.
Standard Brick Size in Nepal
The standard brick size used in Nepal is approximately 230mm × 110mm × 70mm (length × width × height). This is important to know before calculating quantities.
Bricks Per Square Metre of Wall
For a standard half-brick wall (110mm thick), you need approximately 50 bricks per square metre including mortar joints. For a full-brick wall (230mm thick), double that to around 100 bricks per square metre.
Simple Formula
Wall area (m²) × bricks per m² = total bricks required. Always add 5–10% extra for wastage, cuts, and breakage during transport and laying.
Example Calculation
For a room with 4 walls each 4m wide and 3m high (half-brick walls): 4 × (4 × 3) × 50 = 2,400 bricks. Add 10% wastage = 2,640 bricks total.
